In the movie, Mikuru Asahina stars as a time- travelling waitress from the future who must engage in fights with Yuki Nagato, who is playing as an alien- magician. Mikuru has sworn to protect a young man, played by Itsuki Koizumi, but a love- triangle ensues with both Mikuru and Yuki striving for Itsuki's affections. During her class introduction, she states that she has no time for normal humans and asks that any time- travelers, aliens, or espers come out and join her. Interested in her, Kyon becomes the first person to solicit a normal conversation from Haruhi. This leads Kyon and Haruhi to form the SOS Brigade. They recruit the soft- spoken Yuki Nagato and the timid Mikuru Asahina. Going next door, Haruhi manages to obtain a computer by having photographic proof of making it seem that the Computer Research Society president sexually harass Mikuru. She enlists the help of Mikuru to help promote the SOS Brigade by dressing up in a bunny costume and handing out fliers. Later, Yuki invites Kyon to her apartment, where she unveils that she and Haruhi are not ordinary human beings and that she, a humanoid interface, would be classified as an alien. Furthermore, she discusses Haruhi's powers, and how she could destroy and recreate the world on a whim, even though she is not aware of her powers. Kyon, while simply trying to understand all of what Yuki had told him, is initially skeptical of her story. The SOS Brigade gets a new member, a mysterious transfer student by the name of Itsuki Koizumi. On a day off from school, the SOS Brigade searches the city in groups to try to investigate mysteries, during which Mikuru reveals to Kyon her existence as a time- traveler and her mission in relation to Haruhi. Kyon later confronts Itsuki, revealed to be an esper, and as he learns of the purpose of the Agency. All three of these members confirm that Haruhi somehow altered the reality of the universe three years ago. Ryoko Asakura, the class president, is concerned and asks Kyon to help her. Kyon later finds a mysterious letter in his locker, which directs to come to a classroom, where Ryoko confronts him. Revealed to also be an alien, Ryoko attempts to kill Kyon in order to provoke a reaction from Haruhi, but is stopped by Yuki. Later, Kyon meets Mikuru's older self that had traveled from the future, who reveals that Snow White is the clue essential to his future. Ryoko was reported to never have transferred into the high school, much to Haruhi's suspicion. After a fruitless search, Haruhi tells Kyon about her earlier years, and how she changed from an ordinary girl into her present state. Later that day, Itsuki tells Kyon about the theory of the anthropic principle correlating with Haruhi, and he believes that Kyon is the reason why Haruhi was able to wish of such extraterrestrial beings to exist. Itsuki brings Kyon into a sealed reality, where the latter watches the espers destroy a blue giant entity subconsciously created by Haruhi. When returning to his house, Kyon is told by Itsuki to look after Haruhi. As Haruhi goes out on her own, Kyon is met by Itsuki, who tell Kyon that Haruhi might have created this world to be alone with Kyon. Yuki contacts Kyon via computer and gives the hint of Sleeping Beauty as a means to return back. Kyon and Haruhi are forced to evacuate when blue giant entities appear and begin to destroy the school and the surrounding area. Using hints provided by Yuki and Mikuru beforehand in order to defuse the situation and escape, Kyon kisses Haruhi as he expresses his desire to return to the old world. It remains unknown whether or not this world is the old one or a new one, however the three other members are glad to see Kyon back again. In an effort to alleviate some of this stagnation, Haruhi enters the SOS Brigade into a baseball tournament. Due to a lack of players, Tsuruya, Taniguchi, Kunikida, and Kyon's sister are recruited into the team. However, the team is hopelessly inept, and if they lose, Haruhi might destroy the world. To remedy the situation, Yuki uses her powers to alter the course of the game. Coincidentally, the SOS Brigade gets their first case after the website goes up, in which the Computer Research Society president has been reported missing by Emiri Kimidori, who falsely claims to be his girlfriend. Upon going to his apartment, the club members see that he is nowhere to be found, and nothing seems too out of the ordinary on the surface. However, after Haruhi leaves, the others return back to the apartment where they enter a sealed reality somehow created by the president, trapped inside a data entity known as a camel cricket. Kyon and Mikuru watches as Yuki and Itsuki defeat the camel cricket, thereby recovering the president. It is later realized that the club logo that Haruhi had drawn was the catalyst for the sealed reality. On their first day there, they enjoy the facilities and play outside on the beach, but are soon drawn inside by the arrival of a storm. While waiting for the storm to pass, Haruhi and her friends play games indoors and have fun together. Later, Keiichi disappears, and everyone starts searching for him. Ultimately, the SOS Brigade members find Keiichi dead in his room. Yutaka Tamaru is initially suspect due to having been seen leaving the island the previous day before the storm hit. Kyon and Haruhi head outside during the storm, but find nothing, not even the boat. While drying off inside a cave, Haruhi comes to a startling conclusion about the murder, though there was a flaw to her story. They return to the villa and set to devising a plan to solve the mystery, but Haruhi later gives up trying to crack this case. Itsuki tells Kyon another theory to how the murder occurred, which leads the latter to prevent this from being known to the others. It is soon revealed that the murder was just a hoax to spur up excitement. Haruhi explains how she knew that the murder was faked. As the SOS Brigade set sail from the island, Itsuki says to Kyon that this was a plan to get Haruhi to keep her mind free from strange thoughts. Yuki attempts fortune telling, and Itsuki stars in a tragicomedy. Mikuru, along with Tsuruya, and their class open a yakisoba caf. Kyon, attempting to enjoy a normal day, later goes to the auditorium, where bands are playing for the audience, and falls asleep. When he awakens, he sees Haruhi and Yuki walking on stage wearing a bunny girl costume and witch cloak and hat respectively, filling in for a female rock band on vocals and guitar. Their performance creates quite an uproar in the audience. It is revealed why the two had to fill in for the two musicians who were unable to perform for their show. Kyon, after understanding that Haruhi is not used to being appreciated by others, is then dragged into the idea that Haruhi wants to start up her own rock band. Haruhi accepts his challenge, but soon finds out that playing the game is much harder than she thought. Yuki is initially mystified by the computer's operation but catches on quickly, as she will tend to do. Eventually, she manages to find out that Computer Research Society club members are cheating and is able to block and use it against them, thus winning the game and some laptops for the SOS Brigade club room. With Kyon gone, Haruhi takes pictures of Mikuru in various costumes for the movie's DVD cover, Itsuki helps how he can, and Yuki is left alone to read. After Kyon returns, he finds only Yuki in the club room and decides to wait for the others, but falls asleep. When he awakens, he finds Haruhi alone with him, waiting for him to wake up so they can leave. It has already started raining, so Haruhi borrows an umbrella from school for them to use.
